Devon Harris

Born on Christmas Day, 1964 and raised in a violent ghetto environment in Kingston, Jamaica, the greatest gift Devon Harris ever received was the belief that a positive attitude and a never say die philosophy would carry him farther than a sense of injustice and a heart filled with anger.

A graduate of the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in England, Devon received a Queen’s Commission in December 1985 and served in the officer corps of the Jamaica Defence Force until December 1992 when he retired as a Captain.

He tried out for and was selected to the first Jamaican bobsled team which competed in the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary, Canada. Their exploits inspired the Disney blockbuster movie Cool Runnings. Devon also competed in and was captain of the 1992 Winter Olympic Games in Albertville, France and the 1998 Games in Nagano, Japan.

The Keep On Pushing Foundation which he founded in 2006 aims to support and enhance the education of kids in disadvantaged communities and currently supports a breakfast program and a school supplies program in several schools in his old neighborhood.

Devon also works with Right to Play as an athlete ambassador, supporting Right to Play’s efforts in using sports and play in refugee camps around the world to enhance child development and build community capacity. He has been inducted as an Olympian For Life by the World Olympian Association for his significant contribution to society.

Jose Hernandez

Jose Hernandez was an electrical engineer for most of his life with no background or pedigree in art. After a near-death experience in January 2000, and a long, difficult physical recovery, his life path changed dramatically. In 2004 Jose began creating art as a meditative tool. Dr. Erica Miller

Dr. Erica Miller was born on November 10, 1933 in Tshernovitz, Romania. When she was seven, Erica and her family were among thousands of Jews herded into cattle cars and imprisoned in a Nazi holding camp in Mogilev, Ukraine for four years.

After Erica, her parents, and her sister were liberated by the Russians, the family emigrated to Israel in 1949. Erica attended high school at night and worked during the day. Upon graduation, she joined the Israeli Air Force and served proudly from 1954 to 1956 before landing a prestigious job at the Israeli Government Tourist Information Office in Tel Aviv.

Next, fate and opportunity brought her to Los Angeles, California, where she met her future husband, Jerry Miller. Together they built a nest and filled it with two children. In 1970, Erica returned to school. Eight years later, she graduated with a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. Afterwards, she opened a chain of mental health clinics, which she ran for more than 30 years.

Today, in addition to public speaking, Dr. Miller oversees her family’s real estate business in Austin, Texas. She’s written three books, The Dr. Erica Miller Story: From Trauma to Triumph, Don’t Tell Me I Can’t Do It: Living Audaciously in the Here and Now and the international best-seller, Chronologically Gifted—Aging with Gusto!

Jeffery Olsen
